The Guiding Opinions on the Promotion of “’Internet+’ Smart Energy Development", officially released on February 29th, 2016, was prepared under the leadership of the National Energy Administration. As China’s top smart grid plan, this document clarifies the development path of the nation’s grid, assigns medium and long-term responsibilities, and encourages mass participation in the market. The scope of the document covers the construction of energy production and consumption infrastructure, innovation in siting energy production and consumption zones, and the establishment of energy networks, new energy transaction systems and business operation platforms, and large-data energy services. It describes financing mechanisms, and promotes energy interconnection. The guidelines are regarded as a significant milestone in energy reform and development in China.
The new policy plans out the deployment of the smart grid into two stages. From 2016 to 2018, efforts will focus on promoting smart grid pilot and demonstration projects, developing key technologies and core equipment, establishing technical standards, developing comprehensive third-party energy services, and cultivating the new market. From 2019 to 2025, efforts will focus on promoting diversified and large-scale development of the smart grid, building a comprehensive industrial system, and establishing an open, shared environment to improve energy efficiency and increase the proportion of renewable energy in the country’s generation fleet.
Energy storage is regarded as the last missing piece of the smart grid puzzle. Energy storage functions as the core control element in energy systems. Its technological development and business models will play a key role developing the smart grid. There are many applications for energy storage in the smart grid: renewable energy integration, distributed energy, smart cities and buildings, electric vehicles, and more. The rise of the smart grid will bring many opportunities for new energy financing and services. These trends are expected to create a large market for energy storage.
Energy Storage China 2016, an annual event supported by the National Energy Administration and organized by Messe Düsseldorf (Shanghai) Ltd. and the China Energy Storage Alliance, will be held in the Beijing International Convention Center from May 10th to 12th, under the theme of “Energy Storage Supports the Energy Transformation, and Promotes China’s Energy Reform”. ESC 2016 has arranged a seminar on “Energy Storage and the Internet of Energy”, which will invite experts who have participated in the preparation of the most recent smart grid policies to give penetrating analysis on development trends in the smart grid space. Experts will discuss how energy storage can support smart grids, and bring insights into opportunities and business models for energy storage in tomorrow’s grid.
A new and improved conference and trade show, leading the future development of the energy storage
Since 2012, Energy Storage China has attracted industry leaders, policymakers and scholars to promote the development of China’s energy storage industry. This year, ESC 2016 will set up a China Energy Storage and Micro-Grid Application Technology Expo to showcase the newest products, technologies and system applications. Our brand new expo layout has attracted numerous leading brands, including Sifang Automation, TÜV Rheinland, Hydrogenics, Shandong Sacred Sun, NGK, Shanghai Smart Energy, Shuangdeng Group, Menshine, Today Energy, ABB, and more.
A convergence of world-class experts to dive into energy storage and smart grid policies
Energy Storage China 2016 will be held from May 10th to 12th in the Beijing International Convention Center. The conference will feature two sub forums and three seminars to deeply explore various energy storage business models. With over 1000 industrial leaders, 80 trade experts and over 50 organizations expected to be in attendance – including government institutions, energy storage system manufacturers, power companies, generation groups, grid companies, power transmission and distribution operators, grid system operators, system integrators, new energy manufacturers, and investment agencies – you can expect robust debates on the future of China’s energy systems.
Building international communication and cooperation in energy storage
The “Global Energy Storage Market” track is expected to be a highlight of ESC 2016. Experts from the United States, Germany, Japan, Australia and India will share their insights. Look forward to face-to-face communication with global energy storage policymakers, industry experts, trade association leaders and leading business decision makers.
