Energy Storage China 2017 (ESC) - organized by Messe Düsseldorf (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and supported by China Strategic Alliance of Smart Energy Industrial Technology Innovation concluded successfully in China International Exhibition Center, Beijing during March 29 - 31, 2017.
Energy storage is widely used in the electric power system industry and is the key for power generation, transmission, distribution and to integrate renewable energy. Energy storage is a cornerstone to build a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient modern energy system. China has now become the world's largest and most active investor and financier for new energy and renewable energy technologies as the country experiences rapid development in wide varieties of complementary and distributed energy systems – a change which sparks excitement from domestic and foreign exhibitors. ESC 2017 collocated with China International Clean Energy Expo & China Clean Power Summit (CEEC) to achieve a professional platform fueled by international participation. The joint exhibition area spanned over 30,000 square meters and attracted more than 500 leading domestic and foreign enterprises from 21 countries and regions, including TÜV Group, ESSO, GCC Alliance Inc., GK, NRW.INVEST China, Xuji Group, NARI Group, CLOU, Three Gorges Group, RENON, Trina Solar, KSTAR, AEROSPACE POWER, SIEMENS, GE, Titan, Nengrui, MIDWEST, Yong Lian, Growatt, SAJ, GoodWe, LONTEN, Beijing Zenith Technologies. ESC 2017 and CEEC together attracted more than 30,000 professional visitors, industry experts, members from the energy department and other corporate executives. Visitors came in order to gather insights on the newest developments of the clean energy and energy storage industry chain in China.
During the exhibition, experts from the international energy industry networked closely with exhibitors.
The 7 panel sessions of ESC 2017 themed “The Next Generation Energy System” focused on the following topics: “Latest Energy Storage Policies and Markets”, “Innovation and Applications of Energy Storage in the Power Distribution Reform”, “Energy Storage & Electric Vehicles”, “Global Energy Market Update”, “Advanced Energy Storage Technologies”, “Micro Grid and Energy Storage Innovation Technologies”, “Integrated Utilization of Energy Storage Systems and Micro Grid Photovoltaic / Thermal Power Generation / Wind Energy”, “Energy Business Models and Financial Services”. More than 120 domestic and international speakers were invited to discuss on the topics with high attention, attracting some 600 participants to attend the conference. More than 50 key medias made a live report on the event on site.
Mr. Shi Dinghuan, the Former Counselor of the State Council & Chairman of Chinese Renewable Energy Society, expressed from a global perspective that the newly installed capacity in the renewable energy sector has exceeded that of traditional fossil energy. He sees the start of a new era in renewable energy becoming the main source of energy. "Innovation driven energy storage is particularly important, such as application model innovation, business model innovation, innovation in the management of the political systems, as well as policy innovation" Mr. Shi stated, also he expressed his thanks to the organizer, Messe Düsseldorf (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. for building an excellent conference and exhibition platform to promote the international exchanges and cooperation!
Mr. Zhu Jinping, President of Energy and Water Price Professional Committee under the Price Association of China, said during his speech at the opening ceremony of the summit, that the national energy development plan of "13th Five-Year" has been fully implemented and that multi energy harmonizing is also steadily advancing. The energy storage industry has been included in the main agenda as well as the urgent task to solve the problem of how to establish a scientific and reasonable compensation mechanism for energy storage and how to promote the rapid development of the energy storage industry.
Mr. Wang Zhongmin, President of China Strategic Alliance of Smart Energy Industrial Technology Innovation, addressed enthusiastically in his speech that, “as supporter and partner of the summit, I sincerely welcome the arrival of everyone on behalf of China Strategic Alliance of Smart Energy Industrial Technology Innovation.”
Mr. Heiko M. Stutzinger, Deputy General Manager, Messe Düsseldorf (Shanghai) Co., Ltd and Board of Directors, German Energy Storage Association, welcomed participants at the beginning of the summit.
Mr. Urban Windelen, Executive Director of BVES German Energy Storage Association and keynote speaker, addressed the summit, themed “Energy Storage Technology and Energy Transformation in Germany - Latest Policy and Market”, stating that there exists 60,000 residential energy storage systems in Germany while a number of new systems are to be implemented. These new systems combined photovoltaic and energy storage which make an increasing number of companies enter the market. Germany's home heating industry is one of the fastest growing energy industries and now a major part of Germany's energy transformation process. Overall, the total market in Germany is growing and there will be more business opportunities in the future.
Dr. Rahul Walawalkar, Executive Director, India Energy Storage Alliance & President, Customized Energy Solutions (India), gave a detailed explanation on "Indian Energy Storage Policy Analysis and Market Update". He expressed "The situation in India is the same as in China. Although the scale of power in Indian is ten years behind of China, the whole power generation in India is huge, with a total installed capacity of 305GW and a great demand for power transmission and distribution. At present, the energy storage market in India has both opportunities and challenges I hope to cooperate with China to create win-win scenarios".
TÜV Rheinland Group was the key technical support agency in attendance. Mr. Li Weichun, General Manager of TÜV Rheinland Group, Greater China, gave a speech themed as "ESS Smarten your Green Energy". He expressed "energy storage is the key to high permeability for new energy and the development of new energy depends on the types of roles which can be played for the energy storage. At this stage, there are many problems to be solved for the energy storage, such as security, network and other issues, which are all important aspects in front of us".
The ceremony to celebrate the first issue of "China Smart Energy Industry Development Report 2016" was held during the Opening Ceremony and Plenary at Energy Storage China 2017. The "Smart Energy Industry Development Report" is the annual summary of China's smart energy industry, and offers a comprehensive analysis on the status and achievements of the development of smart energy in China, aiming to continuously promote the development of China's energy revolution and smart energy industry.
